Obituary of Josephine Sacco
Josephine Sacco, 97, born in Coney Island Brooklyn New York on December 8th 1925 passed away on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at home. She had lived the past 15 years in Marlboro, NJ, before recently moving into The Villas in Manalapan, NJ. She was predeceased by her husband of 40 years Michael Sacco.
She is survived by her son Dan and his wife Nancy; daughter Ursula and her husband Anthony. She had six Grandchildren, who she adored and their spouses: Kristi (Pat), JoAnn (Jason), Traci (Brian), Michael (Jill), Toni (Tony) and Michael (Denise). For years they were the stars in her eyes. Then along came Great Grandchildren: Of which she had 14 and they became the pictures on the refrigerator and focus of attention and messages. Justin, Emme, Nikki, Samantha, Brandon, Dylan, Alyssa, Avery, Ainsley, Amanda, Jennifer, Jason, Samantha and Joseph. As much as she enjoyed them, they loved being in her presence and sharing chocolates, candy, ice cream, stories, games and love. They were perfect together and the love that spread over four generations was a sight to behold.
When you understand her life, you understand why. A daughter of Italian immigrants (Felice and Orsola Corbo), who came to America in 1904, she and her eight siblings survived a challenging childhood in a new world. Her Father passed away when she was one and her younger sister was still unborn. In a new country, alone, the family bonded together as one. They survived the great depression, World War II and all of life's challenges in this new country - always together. That childhood and bonding experience enhanced her lifelong belief in family and caring for each other. She was predeceased by those siblings and spouses: Mary and her husband John, Tessie and her husband Salvatore, Carmela and her husband Anthony, Tony and his wife Teresa, Salvatore and his wife Debbie, Rose and her husband Nicholas, Jim and his wife Judy and Phyllis and her husband Paul.
But that spirit of family lived on and was carried throughout her life. This was clearly exhibited by her nieces and nephews who called, visited and cared so much throughout the past few years. It was fuel for her soul and the energy for the daily challenge of life.
As the years passed the telephone became the daily link for her and nothing mattered more than the calls from her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and extended family. As long as family was connected then all was right with the world. Family was the bond of time.
Beyond family she lived her life with certain truths.
A belief in her God and that he was watching over her and one day she would be with him. A saint she prayed to daily to carry her message - St. Anthony. A house that would receive daily cleaning, so it would always be spotless. Cupboards and a refrigerator that was always ready to serve any visitor. Therein lies her story. A clean house, food to eat, family to share it with and a God she knew was just. Everything else was material and truly unimportant.
As we bring her home now to meet her God and reunite with her husband Michael, we know the first place she will want to be is around an old table, like the Friday nights past, with her family, talking, laughing and loving one another.
For her that would be heaven within heaven. May God welcome her and guide her to that reunion.
