I'm incredibly thankful that I grew to know Grandpa both as a kid and as an adult. As a kid, I loved playing all kinds of games with him - video games, card games, board games. No matter the game, he was always very patient and always trying to coach us to be better. We also got our hands dirty - one summer about 15 years ago, I worked with him to rebuild the windmill that was rotting in the backyard and built a step stool from scratch which I took home and still use in my parents' kitchen. When things went wrong, he always made you feel better and tried to protect you from getting hurt. Another day, while fixing the fence in the front yard, I whacked his finger really hard with a hammer while he was holding a nail in place. After I made contact with his finger instead of the nail, he quickly pulled his hand away without saying anything. I felt horrible, but he immediately insisted I "didn't hurt him" when I could clearly see his fingernail turned black and blue. I was probably too horrified to use his signature phrase on him then, but if I could go back I’d probably tell him “it’ll go away before you get married.” Though a great phrase to say to kids, I’m still not sure how well that it would work on someone who has been happily married for over 60 years.
While as a kid I admired Grandpa for being patient and joyous, as an adult, I can look back on these same memories and admire him for completely different reasons. I’m now in awe of his ingenuity, work ethic, and ability maximize the use of limited resources, like how well-organized he kept the his shed and made efficient use of the space or how he could think of several different uses for a piece of scrap I probably would have thrown away. In the workplace, I often find applying these qualities are valued and complimented more often than any knowledge I apply from school - qualities I know I picked up from him (and my Dad, who also learned from Grandpa :) ) Whenever I find opportunities to “accomplish more with less” and succeed - even if it’s as simple as ripping a paper towel sheet in half to dry my hands with, I often find myself thinking that Grandpa would be proud.
The most important lesson I'll take from his time with us - without accumulating a lot of material things, you can live a very happy and fulfilling life by surrounding yourself with and giving to the people you love. Grandpa left behind an unbelievable legacy in his family - Grandma, his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and the values, memories, and love they shared with him. Unlike Grandpa’s black and blue finger in my story, I’m not sure the void he left behind will “go away before we get married.” We will always miss him and never forget him.

I wanted to take a moment to say thank you to Winnie who helped us care for Dad at home. She is a wonderful, caring, loving person who was always upbeat and cheerful. Her warm welcome: "Hello Mr. Frank, I love you!" always put a smile on his face... And when she was done helping him he would say: "You're number one Winnie, the best!"
We were blessed to have her helping us - she is a real Angel. Thank you Winnie.

We hit the Parent Jackpot with our Mom and Dad. We never needed more than eachother and never wanted more than we had because we knew there could be no material thing that could give us more satisfaction than being together. Dad was the most unselfish person I know. We knew we had everything we could ever need, the six of us, in our little 4 ROOM apartment in Boro Park, Brooklyn. There our family learned the core lessons of life in the simplist form. With love, family and close friends, happiness is always near. I guess you can say that having parents with hearts of gold that we amassed more wealth than can be spent in a lifetime. The funny thing is he didn't take it with him. He shared it with everyone who he came in touch with. My sister and brothers and our children . . . are truly blessed to have one of the best person to ever walk this earth in our lives for as long as we did. Even in the last few years when times were tough and his health declining my family learned to dig deeper because he did as well. He would have done the same and more for us if humanly possible. There is much good to be learned even in the tough times. A good sense of humor and heart of gold goes a long way. He had plenty of both.
He will be missed but never forgotten. Thank you for visiting his page. Love you Dad!

Francesco Pasquale Boccardi saw his sunrise on September 29, 1936. He was born into the amazing and vastly interesting world that was New York City. The 8th child of 10, he was blessed with a close, loving Italian-American Brooklyn family, and went on to live a life filled with happiness and memories that few ever achieve in this life. He worked, raised a family, bought his own home, achieved the American Dream. His life is the envy of people everywhere. He taught me many things. He was always there for me. He was there for all of us.
I can recall a thousand memories with them, some big, some small. But one speaks for itself.
Once, when I was in Middle School, I got into the National Junior Honor Society. I called my grandparents to tell them I'd be given an award that evening, expecting a 'Good job!' and perhaps, if I was lucky, a lucrative greeting card in the mail from whence to buy Animal Crossing!
...My grandmother's response was to shout, 'Hurry Frank! Evan is getting an award!' Without asking, my grandfather grabbed a small pink loveseat (which they had previously promised me for a rumpus room I had cobbled together in my basement) hauled it down the stairs himself, and loaded it into the truck. My grandfather and my grandmother drove 3 hours some random Autumn night, without advance notice, to see me get presented some piece of paper in a dollar store frame. There are few people on the planet whom would do such a thing for someone that they loved like that. That's what you do for your family, I learned that night. Such a grand gesture of kindness and love is one that only a blessed few ever get to experience in their lives. Such was a mark of this man's tremendous character.
My grandparents made our childhoods unbelievably special. They made our adulthoods all the richer. I tried to make the most of every single moment I had with them, I knew time arrow's marches but in one direction; Forward. I learned so much from my grandfather. In how to dress, how to act, how to think, how to worship, everything I did was but a shadow of him. By 17 I was collecting abandoned barbecues by the side of the road for scrap metal. By 20 I was making wood carvings. And today, in mourning, I put up crown molding in the kitchen. He taught me how the world worked, the components that make it up, and how one can bend those components to fit one's will. He taught me how to be me.
I would undoubtably be a totally different person if I didn't have him in my life. If I could be half the father, or grandfather that my namesake was, I too can die having achieved something unbelievably special. I know that this man is looking down on all of us now, and he is pleased to see who we are, the family he built, the bonds he forged.
And until his sunset on January 28th, 2021, I know this man was loved to a level beyond measure, and will continue to be loved by everyone who was fortunate enough to have known him throughout his life. His generosity, his wisdom, his strength will never be forgotten. We will carry the goodness he shared with us all the days of our lives.
Lots of love, Until we meet again, Grandpa.

My dad was a great father, loving husband and an all around exceptional man. He brought joy and comfort to all who had the honor of knowing him. He possessed all the traits one can only hope to have. He was a man of great moral clarity, strength, patience, compassion, knowledge, humor and humility. He's never uttered a bad work or harbored ill feelings towards anyone. He had the ability to always see both sides of an issue and resolve any problems with calm, steady logic.
He never hesitated to help anyone in need. If you needed someone to build a shed, run pipes, change electrical lines, work on a car engine, do sheet-rock or anything you can imagine, he showed by example that with hard work, determination and imagination, anything can be accomplished.
In truth, his life is best summed up by the Prayer of St. Francis, for whom my father was named after. I love you dad, always and forever.
Lord make Me an instrument of Your peace
Where there is hatred let me sow love.
Where there is injury, pardon.
Where there is doubt, faith.
Where there is despair, hope.
Where there is darkness, light.
Where there is sadness joy.
O Divine master grant that I may
Not so much seek to be consoled as to console
To be understood, as to understand.
To be loved. as to love
For it's in giving that we receive
And it's in pardoning that we are pardoned
And it's in dying that we are born...
To eternal life.
Amen...
