Obituary of Peter Richard Rogina

Peter R. Rogina, 74, of Manalapan, passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2013, at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Manhattan. Born and raised in Greenwich Village, NYC, he has resided in Manalapan since 1967. He was a communicant of St. Gabriel's Catholic Church, Marlboro. Peter was a High School history/social studies teacher for 16 years at Snyder High School and then a social worker on a highly regarded Child Study Team for the Jersey City School System. After 43 years he retired. Throughout the years he has touched many lives in various ways from being a sports coach, to his fundraising work on behalf of the Hemophilia Association, to being a lead organizer, along with wife, Lorraine, for the Patch Quilt Ball to benefit the expansion of Freehold Area Hospital. He was a former member of the Yorktowne Social Club in Manalapan where he was once honored as Man of the Year. He was also the Head Supervisor for Manalapan Recreation at the High School for a year in the mid-70's. He was considered a true gentleman by all.
He was predeceased by his parents, Rose and Rinaldo Rogina. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lorraine; his children and their spouses, Peter and Kirsten, Elaine and Michael Ferrara, and Susan and Michael Krantz; his brother, Paul; six grandchildren, Alexandra, Jake, Corinne, Zachary, Griffin and Teo; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Saturday and Sunday, from 2:00 to 6:00 PM, at Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, 344 Route 9 North, Manalapan. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Monday, Dec. 16th, at 11:45 AM at St. Gabriel's Historic Church, Marlboro. Interment will follow at the parish cemetery.
