I am SO sorry for your loss of Peter. He was a kind caring sincere man. I was one of Rose's nurses while she was at Pine Brook Care Center. I truly enjoyed Peter's visits while I was on duty. I always admired his love and devotion for his mom. He was always so proud of his children and grandchildren. I believe my children are around the same ages as his grandchildren so we always boasted to each other. He was such a selfless man...always doing for everyone else. Unfortunately due to an injury I had to stop working in January 2012 but Peter was a true friend and always stayed in touch. I thought perhaps he was busy making holiday candy and that's why I hadn't heard back from him. I just recently hung the Santa "The apple of my eye" that he had given me for Christmas of 2011. I will cherish it always and keep you all in my Prayers. In deepest sympathy, Robin Brown

My name is Geraldine Gillio. I worked with Pete at Snyder High School from 1961 to 1966 in the social studies department. He was always a gentleman and helpful to me. When I returned from a leave in 1968 I learned he left for greener pastures and I was offered 2 of the American history classes he would have taught. It was always great to see him when he visited the department meeting room to see his buddies. The news of his death is a sad and shocking event. To me he was young at heart and I learned from the obit that we were the same age. My deepest sympathy to the Rogina family.

Pete is certainly one of the most genuine person that I have encountered in my life's journey. I have met him some 15 years ago during my 45 years of residency in the U.S. and it seemed that I knew him more than a life-time. Although our meetings and interactions were brief we maintained the relationship and friendship that was built on trust, faith, empathy, kindness, respect, humility, tolerance, and a genuine sense of caring and concern for his fellow human beings, especially the "underdogs" which he identified me with. Pete lived up to the above virtues and never, never falter or waiver for he was a man of good moral and ethical character. Pete always stood strong and tall in the presence of family, friends or strangers and lived up to that expectation of being a wonderful person. If he said he was going to help you with a problem or concern he really, really meant it. Pete's genuine nature and character touched manny hearts and is the epithomy of what a wonderful, wonderful human being he was and I will surely miss him and his world of Sinatra's music and the special the accommodation he made for me and the music of Matt Monro. Pete or "SINATRA" as I usually call him, how can I forget you.

Pete welcomed my son Michael into the family with open arms, he also extended his friendship to my husband my other son and myself. We had many holidays and birthdays together. He was just such a great gentle kind man. The last conversation I had with him he was saying he didn't like the cold weather and after the Xmas holidays he wanted to go some place warm. I'm sure he is in heaven with the sun shinning on him. He will be missed by all who knew him. He was just a really great person.

I had Mr. Rogina for U.S. History 1 in my junior year at Snyder High ('71-'72). When I look back at my own teaching career, I realize that he is the person on whom I based my teaching persona - both in and out of the classroom. My deepest regard for the man comes from the many "above and beyond" experiences I shared with him. I saw my first Broadway play (Grease, probably the fall of 1972) with Mr. and Mrs. Rogina and a few other kids from Snyder. We attended at least one Yankees game (followed by the Italian Festival downtown). And when I was turning seventeen and despaired of ever learning how to drive (my parents didn't own a car), Mr. Rogina came into Jersey City during Christmas vacation and gave me my first driving lesson at Roosevelt Stadium. He also allowed me to take my first road test (I failed) in his car.
I doubt I am the only student whom Mr. Rogina touched like that.
I've often thought about him and will always be grateful that somehow he knew this nerdy kid from Jersey City needed a friend and a mentor, and he was willing to fill that role.
The world is a better place for his having been here, and I am a richer person for having known him. Rather than mourn his loss, I'd like to remain grateful that I was allowed to know him when I was.
God bless his family and closest friends. I know it's difficult for you all to say good-bye.
