Obituary of Ambrose E. LeVan

At the tender age of 106, Ambrose Edwin (Amby) LeVan, passed away on July 20 in Freehold, NJ.
A retired research engineer and resident of Applewood Estates since 1993, he was the quintessential Renaissance Man who was committed to sharing with his community his multiple talents as a musician, photographer, craftsman and philanthropist. In 2002, he was named Resident of the Year by the Senate and Assembly of the State of New Jersey and served as an honorary board member at CentraState Medical Center and Foundation.
Born in Reading, PA., he began his career as a civil engineer at the municipal water department. During WWII, he designed instruments for military applications at U.S. Gauge in Sellersville, PA, later Ametek, Inc, New York. He served as Director of Engineering and Sales and held numerous patents. He retired in 1976 as Vice President for Research and Development
Predeceased by the wife of 67 years, Dorothy Swoyer LeVan, in 2003, he is survived by his daughter, Joan LeVan Jones, of West Windsor, NJ, three grandchildren, Karin Jones Colantuono, Kyle Jones Harris, Kristina Jones Randolph, and great-grandchildren, Nicholas Ambrose Colantuono, Kathryn Colantuono, Grace Harris, Benjamin Harris, and Sophia LeVan Randolph.
A viewing will be held Thursday, July 26, from 4-8 PM at Freeman Funeral Home, 47 E. Main St., Freehold (www.freemanfuneralhomes.com). A funeral Mass will be held at 10 AM on Friday at the Co-Cathedral of St. Robert Bellamine, Freehold.
