Obituary of George Edward Timmes
Please share a memory of George to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
George E. Timmes, 77, of Manalapan was called home to God on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 surrounded by his family. George was born and raised in Brooklyn, he and his family moved to Manalapan where he has resided for the past 48 years. He proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Air Force Reserves.
George spent the last 25 years of his career with the Bank of Nova Scotia Trust Company retiring as Vice-President in 2002.
George was a communicant and an active member of St. Thomas More and Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Churches for over 40 years. He held many roles in the church including elected member of the Parish Council, member of the Finance Committee, Religious Education Teacher, Director of Altar Servers. In addition, George was an active member in the community with the Knights of Columbus Prince of Peace Council 5903 since 1967. During this time he served one term as both Grand Knight and John F. Carroll Columbian Club President. George was also an active member of the Manalapan Braves Booster Club from 1985 through 1989 where he served one term as President.
George's first love was spending time with family and friends, nothing was more fulfilling to him than a day spent with immediate and extended family at home, traveling together, celebrating and supporting them on special occasions or at sporting events. George's legacy will be the respect, kindness and charitable acts he showed towards others; his infectious laugh as well as his commitment to his faith, family, friends and community. While he will be truly missed, his spirit will live on.
George is survived by his beloved and devoted wife, Barbara of 52 years; his three sons and two daughters-in-law, Michael and Donna of Freehold; Timothy of Toms River; Brian and Deborah of East Hampton, CT; sister, Geraldine Hauk of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; sister-in-law, Kathleen Flanagan of Belleville; two grandchildren Amanda and John; and many nieces and nephews.
