Obituary of Charles James Van Curen
Charles James Van Curen, 88 of Marlboro, passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2024 at CentraState Medical Center in Freehold, NJ. Charles was born in Bronx, New York. He enjoyed bowling, golf and playing with his great-grandchildren. Charles was employed as a General Forman for Monmouth County Highway Department. Charles was a member of Old Brick Church for 66 years where he had been a Deacon and an Elder. He was a life member of Marlboro Fire Company, joining when he was 18 years old and had 46 years of service as treasurer of Marlboro Township Firemen’s Relief Association. He earned a qualified status in the NJ State Firemen’s Association and Exempt Firefighter Status for the State of NJ. He was also Fire Commissioner for Marlboro Fire District #1 for 45 years.
Charles was predeceased by his parents Charles and Adeline Van Curen and he is survived by his wife of 65 years Dorothy Van Curen; son Bryan C. Van Curen and daughter-in-law Karen of Marlboro, NJ; daughter Terry Lynn MacDonald and son-in-law Michael of Marlboro, NJ; daughter Holly A. Kelly and son-in-law Robert of Howell, NJ; his 7 grandchildren, Sarah (Chris) Whelan, Danielle (Gene) Garritt, Nicole MacDonald, Christopher (Dana) Van Curen, Caitlin (Ryan) MacDonald, Dale Seitz and Elizabeth Fryc (Matthew) and 10 great-grandchildren.
Friends and family are invited to visit on Thursday, December 26, 2024 from 4:00-8:00pm at the Freeman Funeral Home, 47 East Main Street, Freehold, NJ 07728. A Funeral Service will be 11:00am on Friday, December 27, 2024 at Old Brick Reformed Church in Marlboro, NJ. Interment will follow at Old Brick Reformed Church Cemetery, Marlboro, NJ.
