Obituary of John E. Schmigel

John E. Schmigel, 79, of Freehold, NJ, passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at Jersey Shore Medical Center. John was born in Cambridge, New York before moving to Freehold where he resided for 50 years. John graduated with an accounting degree from Youngstown University in 1967, before establishing a lifetime career in the standardbred horse industry as an owner, trainer, driver, and most recently, horse transporter.  John also served in the National Guard for ten years.

 John was predeceased by his parents John and Olive Schmigel. He is survived by his wife Patricia Schmigel; his children Kevin Kane (Ellen), Kathy Fernicola (Rich), Karen Caswell and Kyle Kane (Melissa); ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and a close group of lifelong friends.                          

Friends and family are invited to visit on Wednesday, October 2^nd from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, at Freeman Funeral Home, 47 East Main Street, Freehold, NJ 07728. A funeral service will be held at Freeman Funeral Home on Thursday, October 3^rd at 10:00 AM.
