Obituary of Eleanor Bergen

Please share a memory of Eleanor to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Eleanor Bergen, 87, of Manalapan, passed away peacefully on July 18th 2024.  She was born to parents Harry and Grace Conklin, on December 3, 1936 in Brooklyn, NY.

She attended St. Joseph’s High School in Brooklyn and briefly worked in banking operations. Shortly after, she married the love of her life of 61 years James, who preceded her in death in 2020. Eleanor is survived by her son’s Keith and Jim(Eileen) as well as her 5 beloved grandchildren, Drew, Patrick, Kevin, Kaitlyn and Julia. Eleanor is also predeceased by her parents and sister Dolores O’Grady.

A longtime resident of Manalapan, Eleanor was actively involved in the community, teaching CCD, and as a Cub Scout den mother. She loved her grandchildren, and never missed an opportunity to brag about them. She enjoyed traveling with Jimmy, loved animals, especially her cats. Eleanor also  loved photography and ceramics, but most of all she loved her family.  She was a “tough cookie” and was always there to fix a bicycle or drive her sons and their friends anywhere they needed to go. She will be sorely missed.

A celebration of Eleanor’s life and the love her family has for her will take place on July 22, 2024 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Freeman Funeral Home located at 344 U.S. 9, Manalapan Township, NJ 07726. A funeral liturgy will be held on Tuesday, July 23rd at 10:00am at Our Lady of Mercy in Englishtown, NJ.  Interment to follow at Old Tennent Cemetery, Manalapan.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Eleanor’s name.
