Obituary of Mary Campo

Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Mary (Scaglione) Campo, 97, of Freehold, NJ, passed away on Friday, February 9, 2024.

Mary was born in the Port Richmond section of Staten Island, New York.  In her childhood years she lived with her sister, Doris, and her parents Guiseppena and Severino above the restaurant her father had on Richmond Terrace. Mary was an alumna of Port Richmond High School and later worked as a bookkeeper for a local bank on Staten Island.

She met her future husband, (the late) Anthony Campo at a dance in Brooklyn, New York in her young adulthood. Mary and Anthony were married in 1955 and raised their three sons, Joseph, John and Thomas in Westerleigh, Staten Island.  Throughout her life, Mary resided not only in Staten Island, but also Florida, Massachusetts and New Jersey.  For the past 12 years, Mary lived at Applewood Estates in Freehold Township. She enjoyed the Applewood community and sang in the chorus, was a member of the kazoo ensemble and participated in several clubs.  For a period of time, Mary served on a residents’ committee that made recommendations for facility repairs and improvements.

Mary was predeceased by her parents Serverino and Guiseppena Scaglione; loving spouse Anthony and brother-in-law Peter Mundo.  Mary is survived by her sister Doris Mundo; sons and daughters in law Joseph Campo (Karen), John Campo (Joanne) and Thomas Campo (Zoya); her nine grandchildren, Christian, Jena, Fr. David Campo, Paul, (Janet), Stephen (Lindsay) and their son Harrison, Jessica, Larissa, Sam and Tony. She is also survived by her nephew Frank and niece Lucy.

Mary was loved by her children and the caring and wonderful staff at Applewood.  She will be deeply missed.

Friends and family are invited to visit on Monday, February 12th, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Freeman Manalapan Marlboro Funeral Home, 344 Route 9 North.
