Sylvia knew me when I was born seventy years ago in Far Rockaway, New York. She was friends with my mom Gladys. They lost touch but found each other again when my mom moved to Greenbriar in Marlboro, N.J. They reconnected and became fast friends again. When my stepfather past away Sylvia and my mom formed a group of five widows. Always there for each other and always having lots of laughs. But Sylvia was the one who held the group together. She was always inviting the girls over for coffee and cake or the impromptu dinner that she just whipped up. When the other ladies and my mom passed away I went to visit Sylvia often when I was in the area probably at the mall. As soon as I called her the first thing she said was come over, I’ll make some tea and take out some cake. We sat for hours chatting. She was always interested in hearing stories about my daughter and grandchildren and on our next visit always remembered what I had told her the last time. Loved hearing her stories too about her son and daughter and beautiful grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a very special lady. Hoping she’s up in heaven with my mom and the other three ladies having tea, cake and some laughs.
