Obituary of Marilyn Nihill

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Marilyn Frances Nihill at the age of 74. Known for her bright smile and friendly personality, she touched the lives of many with her warm heart and vibrant spirit. She had a deep love for conversation and was always ready to share a story or lend an ear. Her compassion extended beyond her circle of human friends, as she had a unique affection for her pets, often rescuing and caring for animals in need.

Marilyn grew up in Chicago, which could be discerned from her midwestern twang that would strengthen after visiting her beloved friends and family. While growing up, she excelled in school. Her academic prowess was evident early on and culminated in her proud accomplishment of a Master’s in Library Science. She would have told you, though, that her greatest achievement by far was her family. She fell in love with her husband Tom upon first meeting him in Boston while she was working as a flight attendant and he was serving as an officer in the Marine Corps. They married at Calvary Chapel Pearl Harbor in Hawaii and lived in Japan and North Carolina during his service before returning to the Philadelphia region, where she raised her three children. She was a caring and funny mother who always helped nurture and cultivate each one of her children’s gifts, whether that was in the arts, academics, or sports. She was so proud of each of them and celebrated their accomplishments. The only thing that made her happier than her children was the arrival of her two grandsons.

Marilyn is survived by her devoted husband, Thomas Nihill, her son, Bryce Nihill, and her daughter-in-law, Krystin Nihill, her daughter, Colleen Nihill, son-in-law, Craig McGettigan, and grandson, Seamus McGettigan, and her youngest daughter, Erin Nihill, son-in-law, Michael Cooney, and grandson, Michael Cooney Jr. All of them will continue to honor her legacy of love and kindness.

Her life was a testament to the power of love, compassion, and generosity. Her spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched.
