Obituary of Catherine E. Meyers

Please share a memory of Catherine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Catherine E. Meyers Catherine E. Meyers, née Mulreed, 86, entered into eternal life on April 21, 2023, at the Reformed Church Home in Old Bridge, NJ. Catherine was born on July 19, 1936, in the city of Newark, NJ to Thomas and Mary Mulreed. She was raised in Newark, NJ and graduated from St. James High School in Newark in 1954. Catherine married the love of her life, Robert George Meyers in 1960. They settled down in Long Branch, NJ where they had three beautiful children. In 1978, Catherine was widowed as her husband lost a long battle with brain cancer. Catherine went on to raise her three children by herself as they spent many enjoyable summer days at the beach with many friends and family. As time went by, the beach became an absolute must for Catherine and her children, regardless of the weather. Each day, the family packed their beach gear and headed off to another great day at Seven President’s. Catherine was a long-time communicant at The Church of the Precious Blood, in Monmouth Beach, NJ. One of Catherine’s favorite hobbies was playing Bingo. In addition to playing Bingo, she also volunteered her time by running the kitchen and the bingo office at Our Lady Star of the Sea. She always enjoyed sharing funny stories and shared laughs with good friends she made. As her children got older, Catherine began a career at Fort Monmouth as an administrative assistant for CECOM. She loved the camaraderie of those she worked with and came home with funny stories about each day’s adventures. She always cherished the lifelong friendships she made there. Catherine retired after 25 years of service when the Fort was closed. Since her retirement, Catherine filled her days surrounded by her greatest pleasure of all, her children and grandchildren, and loved to tell stories about them to anyone who would listen. Despite her very difficult and challenging life, Catherine loved life and always had a warm hug, a bright smile, and a hearty laugh for everyone she met. Catherine was loved by all and will be missed immensely.

Catherine was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Mary Mulreed and her loving husband Robert Meyers. She is survived by her son Robert Meyers and his wife Vivian of Bluffton, South Carolina, her daughter Debra Compton and husband Robert of Manalapan, NJ, her daughter Maureen Caffyn-Price and her husband Patrick of Howell, NJ; her seven grandchildren, Lauren, Robert, Gregory, Kaden, Logan, Kylie and Bella and many nieces and nephews.

Friends and family are invited to visit on Tuesday April 25th from 4pm to 8 pm at Freeman Funeral Home, 344 Route 9 North, Manalapan, NJ. A funeral liturgy will be held at St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, Manalapan on Wednesday, April 26th at 10 am. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, West Long Branch. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Catherine’s name to: St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, https://www.stjude.org/ or The Alzheimer’s Association, https://www.alz.org/.  To leave a condolence or find directions, visit www.freemanfuneralhomes.com.
