OBITUARY             

Michael James "Papa" Sweet, Sr., 71, passed away on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at Jersey Shore Medical Center. He was born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts and has resided in Freehold for most of his life.  Michael was employed as a Corrections Officer for Monmouth County Corrections for 20 years.

Michael was predeceased by his parents; Herbert and Anna Sweet and sisters; Marylou Narciso and Sally Crochet. He is survived by his loving wife the former Mary Surgent son; Michael Sweet (Charlene) daughters; Mary Gold (Wesley) and Melanie Parks (Stephen) and brother; Reverend Stephen Sweet (Nancy) grandchildren; Nicole, Michael, Brittany, Emily, Stephen, Isabella, Robert, Charles, William, Johnathan, Jacquelann.

Calling hours will be on Sunday, January 22, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, at Freeman Funeral Home, 47 East Main Street (as per Papa’s request, football attire is preferred). A Funeral Liturgy will be held at St. Rose of Lima Church on Monday at 12:00 PM, Burial to follow at the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made in his memory to V.F.W / Riders, 50 Waterworks Road, Freehold NJ.
