To the Wirth Family, I was saddened to read of Mary’s passing last November. She was a lovely person. I met her through a mutual friend who told me of her artistic gifts. She brought comfort to many bereaved families by creating a book of their deceased babies’ names with her wonderful calligraphy. Every few years she would update the book and bring comfort to more families. She was so gracious to give me a tour of her fascinating home studio. I have a set of her beautiful hand decorated wine glasses which always remind me of her. God rest her and may He comfort you all with beautiful memories of her. Mary was a warm woman with an easy smile who was able to laugh at life’s little absurdities. As co-workers at SJV we initially bonded over shared stories of our college experience in the Art Department at what was then Monmouth College. Beyond teaching art together we created the sets for the Little Theater at SJV. Working right alongside Mary was her best friend, her husband Andy. I’m so thankful Mary had these last seven years of retirement at home with Andy. How blessed she was to see her daughters become mothers and to meet and love her three grandchildren. Mary was an extraordinary artist and a friend to all. She will be greatly missed.

I will always remember Ms. Wirth for being so kind and just so genuine. She was a bright spot for me in high school, even when everything seemed miserable. I fondly remember hanging around her art room (and sometimes even sneaking out of gym class to do so… oops!). Ms. Wirth, thank you for your patience with such a loud oddball like me; you will be missed!

I was sorry to hear about Mary's death. I worked with her for all the years she was at St John Vianney HS. She always had a beautiful smile and was very willing to help in whatever way she could. She brought out talents that the students didn't realize they had. My prayers are for you Jessica and the family. Thanks for sharing her with the Lancer family.
