Obituary of Jean Barbara Petrovcin
Jean Barbara Petrovcin, 87, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 6, 2022, at Brandywine Assisted Living in Colts Neck, NJ. Jean was born October 14, 1935 in Portage Lake, Maine, the youngest of 10 children. She married Stephen Petrovcin in 1963 and traveled wherever the Air Force took them, including England, California, Texas, Maine, and Maryland. After retiring from the military in 1972, they moved to Johnson City, NY to raise their children.
Jean was an active member of Blessed Sacrament Parish as a Eucharistic minister, CCD teacher and a member of the church choir. She volunteered in the school district as PTO president and chaperoned many band trips. She enjoyed playing cribbage, doing jigsaw puzzles, reading, crocheting, bowling, golfing and long walks with her friends. Jean loved music and was an incredible piano player and singer.
Jean and Steve retired to St. Petersburg, Florida, where they enjoyed the sun and good times with friends. After some health issues, they moved to New Jersey in 2018. Steve passed shortly thereafter. Jean was a breast cancer survivor and battled dementia for the past 17 years of her life.
She moved to the Brandywine-Reflections in Colts Neck, where she was loved and cared for by the nurses, care managers and staff. Though her memory was slowly taken from her, she never lost her playfulness and helpful nature. Jean was known as the life of the party at her memory care facility.
Jean was predeceased by her husband, Stephen in 2018. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Anne Marie (John) Neumann, of Freehold, NJ; her son and daughter-in-law, Stephen (Heather) Petrovcin of Windham, NH; and her four grandchildren, Stephanie (Ryan) McCarthy, Ryan Neumann, Skylar and Kiley Candon. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews and her sister-in-law and lifetime friend Beatrice Cormier.
Friends and family are invited to gather at St. Mary’s Church, 1 Phalanx Road, Colts Neck, New Jersey 07722 on Saturday, November 19, 2022. Family and friends will be received beginning at 10:30 am. The funeral mass will begin at 11:00 am.
