Obituary of Hannelore Helen Starsinic
Hannelore Starsinic, known to friends as Lori, passed away in her sleep on Sunday, November 6, 2022. She was 87 years old.
The only child of August and Rose Wanner, immigrants who worked as valet and cook on Philadelphia's Main Line, Lori showed an early talent for the piano. In her youth, she won multiple national piano competitions, served as opera singer Anna Moffo's personal accompanist, and toured the country as a lounge pianist under the name Lori Adams.
While attending Temple University for her teaching certificate, she met her husband-to-be, Bill Starsinic. They married, and moved to Freehold after graduation.
Lori loved to mentor young children; she was as happy to teach them to say "please “as she was to teach them a new song. She taught elementary music, spending most of her career at the Rumson Country Day School. She also gave private piano lessons, acted (in regional theater and, to her great joy, briefly in film), and was musical director and accompanist for dozens of shows in the Monmouth County region, many of them directed by her husband.
Lori took great joy and comfort in her church. She served as choir director and organist at Grace Lutheran Church in Freehold for over 30 years.
Lori is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Brian Gilmore, her son and daughter-in-law, Kurt and Katharine Starsinic, and her grandson, Tristan Starsinic.
