Obituary of Eleanor Elizabeth Torkelson

Eleanor S. Torkelson, 94, of Marlboro, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, at Sunrise Senior Living, Marlboro, on January 5, 2015. Born at home in New Dorp, Staten Island she had resided in Marlboro for the past 10 years. She was a graduate of St. Peter's Girls High School, SI and Pratt Institute of Technology, Brooklyn before her employment at Edgewater Savings and Loan of New Dorp, SI and then with its successor in Monmouth County. She was an active communicant of St. Gabriel's Catholic Church, Marlboro and in addition to her loving family she leaves many treasured friends and caregivers at Sunrise Senior Living. She was predeceased by her husband, John in 1983, and siblings Clement, Carolyn and Mary Louise. Surviving are four sons and three daughters-in-law, John Paul, Richard and Sharon, Stephen and Leona, and Mark and Joan; three grandchildren, Eric, Jason and Sally; and four great grandchildren. Friends and family are invited to visit on Thursday, Jan. 8, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., at Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, 344 Route 9 North, Manalapan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Gabriel's Historic Church, Marlboro. Interment will be private.
