Penny and I became friends when working at Family Intervention Services. I admired her professional, creative and caring approach. She was always warm and gentle toward the clients-- but she could also "set them straight" when it was needed. She made children,, especially, aware of their individual talents and encouraged their personal development, building positive self esteem. Penny also made time for a hug for them. I repeatedly told her that knowing her, becoming her friend, was the gift I received from my working days at FIS.
The friendship we shared, which deepened through the years is a blessing in my life. Penny enriched my soul,, lifted my spirit,, and broadened my heart. So many days were brightened by her humor,, warmth,, generosity and thoughtfulness. She could easily make me smile never-- I never knew when she would spontaneously burst out in song! I loved her very much. I can never forget her beauty and love. She is, was, and will be forever embedded in my heart.
May her family be surrounded by love, support, and warmth, in this difficult time.

Dear Family of Penny: Penny Dragonetti had a powerful influence on the growth and development of the SPAN Parent Advocacy Network (SPAN). She started off in 1998 as our Northern Training Coordinator, partnering with Peg Kinsell who was the Southern Training Coordinator. She was the first Director of Training for SPAN starting in 2005. In that role, she was responsible for “professionalizing” our SPAN Resource Parent training series. She was also the first TA Coordinator on NE-PACT, our regional parent TA center, from 2003-2006, helping dozens of parent centers improve their operations and their services to families. She left SPAN’s employment but continued working closely with SPAN as the director of the Partnership for Family Success, the collaborative project SPAN had with Parents Anonymous, the NJ Alliance of Family Support Organizations, and Family Intervention Services, that provided training and TA to the then new network of Family Success Centers. She played a key role in helping the Family Success Centers partner more effectively with families not just as recipients of services but as leaders and shapers of those services. In all of her roles at and with SPAN, she exercised the highest levels of professionalism, family-centeredness, and commitment. Those of us who knew her and worked with her are deeply saddened by her death, but celebrate her amazing life and the long-lasting impact of her work. Thank you for sharing her with us.

I hate Cancer but I love Penny Dragonetti. She was a colleague but more importantly she wasa friend, she was family. We were quite a pair but we were an odd couple. Penny was organized, had structure, made lists and kept us on point…I did not. Most important though is that Penny honored what I brought to our work and let me flourish in the areas of my strength. She got me and God bless her put up with me.
I have so much to say but am struggling to find the words. Borrowing a line from Stephen Schwartz – “It well may be that we will never meet again in this lifetime…so much of me is made of what I learned from you. You’ll be with me like a handprint on my heart…”
I love you Penny Lane
