Obituary of Emil Patrick Cenci
Emil Cenci was born on November 4, 1927 in Manhattan, New York. His parents were Felicina and Umberto Cenci.
In 1941 his family moved to Staten Island. He attended New Dorp High School and graduated in January 1946. In February 1946 he was drafted into the Army and after completing basic training in Fort Knox, KY, he served in France and Germany. While in Germany he was an auto repair mechanic and served as chauffeur for a Colonel. He received an honorable discharge in April 1947.
He attended Wagner College and graduated cum lade in June 1951 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting.
During his attendance at Wagner he played varsity baseball. He was considered an outstanding player by his Coach, Herb Sutter. He was elected Captain of the team and was inducted into the Wagner College Hall of Fame in 2005.
After graduation he was employed by Bankers Trust Company and held many Supervisory positions throughout his career. He was head of the Bank’s Trust Operations Division and retired as First Vice President in January 1986. He was employed by them for 35 years.
He attended NYU and received his Master’s Degree in Accounting in 1957. In addition to playing baseball at Wagner, Emil played baseball in the Twyford Muche Major League for 5 years and was an all star player every year. His team (The New Dorp Tavernites) won the league’s championship 3 years in a row. He also played softball in various leagues.
After becoming a father, he managed his son’s Little League team and later became an officer in the Babe Ruth League. His love of baseball was apparent throughout his entire life. He was a faithful Yankee fan.
After living on Staten Island for 46 years, he relocated to Howell, New Jersey. Emil was a member of the Howell Senior Friendship Club, where he served as Treasurer for many years. He also served on the St. Veronica’s Festival team. After living in Howell for 25 years, he moved to Marlboro, NJ.
Emil and his wife chaired the New Dorp High School Reunion for the classes of 1946-1951 for 21 years.
Emil was very gifted in constructing many home renovation projects and decks. He enjoyed doing this for his own home and that of his children.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Adeline; his daughters Janet Mayer and her husband, Richard; Linda Keddy; Karen Cenci and Jerry Ganz; and son Paul Cenci and his wife, Cathy. He leaves his loving grandchildren Stephen Mayer and wife Carly; Diane Mosko and husband Lee; David Mayer and wife Miranda; Dennis Rooney and wife Kim; Bill and Michelle Keddy; Lauren Frawley; Nicholas and Andrew Cenci and 8 great-grandchildren; Mia, Stella, Ellie, Nash, Lina, Emilia, Islay and Evelyn.
A visitation will be on Thursday, June 3, 2021 from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the Freeman Manalapan Marlboro Funeral Home, 344 Route 9 North, Manalapan, NJ 07726. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated Friday, June 4 at 10:00am at St. Thomas More R.C. Church in Manalapan. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery Staten Island, NY.
