Obituary of Robert George Kelsey

Robert George Kelsey, of Freehold Twp, after a long struggle with cancer, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family on November 16, 2014. He lived a full life, and was loved and admired by family and friends for his warmth, wit, generosity, devotion, and good sense. Born on April 29, 1939, Robert was the youngest child of James and Mary Kelsey. In 1957 he enrolled in The Art Students League of New York, which he attended until 1962. He then enlisted in the US Army, where he was a member of the Signal Corps. He served for a time in France, where he met his loving and devoted wife of 45 years, Aline Suquet Kelsey, whom he married on August 22, 1969. He made a career at Rutgers University, holding a number of administrative positions throughout the university until his retirement in 1999. During his time at Rutgers he also attended night school, receiving a BA and MA in History. He was a life-long parishioner of St Rose of Lima in Freehold, NJ.
Robert is survived by his wife, Aline; his three children and their spouses, Sean and Christel, Matt and Nona, and Jessica and Nathan; by his seventeen grandchildren; and by four sisters, Lorraine, Dorothy, Joan, and Margaret. He was predeceased by eight siblings, James, Ray, Mary, Gene, Bill, Betty, Frank, and Yvonne.
Friends and family are invited to visit Freeman Funeral Home, 47 E Main St, Freehold, on Wednesday, November 19, from 4 to 8 PM. A Funeral Service will be held Thursday 10 AM at St. Rose of Lima Church, Freehold. Interment will follow at the parish cemetery.
