Dear Family, Friends and Members of the 8th Armored Division Association
We are terribly saddened to learn of the passing of our brother Doug. Please allow me to extend to you the very sincere condolences of the 8th Armored Division Association Family and of course, my own deep sympathy at his passing.
Doug was indeed a devoted member of the Association and always attended the annual Reunions (mostly held in the Philadelphia area). He always brought along an interesting display of military artifacts and uniforms, presumably from his father who served nobly in the 8th Armored Division (as did my father), whom we honor and seek to memorialize.
Please accept our sincere sympathy at his loss and desire for comfort in this time of mourning.,
Condolences
Andy Waskie, president
8th Armored Division Association.

We have had so many good times over the years, at the Cabin in Northville NY. watching the boys Kyle, Tyler, Mike Chris all grow up! and watching you, (Doug man the grill) fishing, .boating, and all the evening camp fires. During Christmas time we would all gather and enjoy each others company and watch the kids open presents. Thanksgiving was just as much fun, except for the clean up. We will deeply miss all of the great times we shared together, to lose such a great man, father, husband and friend you will be in our hearts forever.
Love Mary Ann, Mike Lantier

We were so sad to hear of the sudden passing of Doug. The Ciemniecki family holds a special place in our hearts. Our parents met many, many years ago, living a short distance away....just around the corner....in Kenilworth & became friends. I have many childhood memories growing up knowing them. Doug was such a nice guy, always a great smile. As an adult, when in the Kenilworth area, he would visit with my parents, which they truly enjoyed. Doug and my Dad would chat about hunting & fishing, something they both loved to do. Now they are all in heaven, visiting again.
May God bless Doug & his family. Rest in peace Doug. Thinking of all the Ciemniecki families during this sorrowful time. You are all in our thoughts & prayers.
Sending our sincere condolences & love. XO

These past days have been difficult and stressful for all of us. Sue, Kyle, Tyler, and everyone, hang in there. Try to find your own way to cope. For me, coping often means music. And as I thought about Doug and what he meant to all of us, I thought of a Billy Joel song. Billy Joel said only the good die young. Doug was certainly one of the good ones and he died way to young. Doug was my scouting and nature buddy, sharing a great love for camping and all things outdoors. He brought me feathers and empty turtle shells, which were just the best presents ever. We had long discussions about the best and worst of scouting, but we agreed that in the end, it was worth it for our sons. And he was, well not exactly a hoarder, but he had a great appreciation for what others might call junk. I appreciated all his efforts to reuse, re-purpose, and give new life to things. After all, I shared a similar philosophy about gently used, sometimes found at the curb, unwanted items. You know, the stuff most people call trash. We both understood that they deserved another chance. I wish Doug had another chance. I’m sure we all wish that. He made the world a brighter, friendlier, happier place and the world needs more people like him. I will miss him dearly.

Doug's memory burns warm and bright in my heart. A true gentleman - always ready with a broad smile and clever wit. Doug is a problem definer and a problem solver - a rare combination. His eye for technical quality is unmatched. As a veteran Scouter - he developed countless boys into worthy young men. This is something we need more of desperately. As a dedicated member of Army Ground Forces Association (www.armygroundforces.org), Doug dramatically advanced both the breadth and quality of the organization's historic restoration projects. Doug's interaction with the public during interpretive events was always just what our visitors needed to hear, see or experience. Doug is a special friend and he is leaving a huge hole in many, many people's lives. The Lord could not ask for better company - maybe that's why he took him so soon....there are chores awaiting him in Heaven...things to be designed and built, problems to define and solve, and souls to be nurtured along the way....the list is endless. Our loss is Heaven's gain.
Fair Winds and Following Seas my special friend!
