Obituary of Dominick L. Nicastro

Dominick L. Nicastro of Manalapan passed away on Saturday August 22, 2020 at Centra State Medical Center. Dominick was born in New York in 1925 and lived in Manalapan for 25 years. Dominick was an ornamental iron worker and finished his career as a blacksmith with The City of New York.  He was a decorated WW II veteran, earning a bronze star for valor before sustaining injuries in battle. He refused the purple heart because he felt the men who died deserved it more than him.  He was at the forefront of the Allies liberation of Italy and was the first US Infantryman to enter the Vatican after repelling the occupying enemy forces.

Dominick was predeceased by his wife Amelia; siblings Joseph, Peter, Rocky, Mickey, Mary and Rose.  He is survived by his daughters Patricia; Margarite and her husband Charles; brother John and his wife Vivian; grandchildren Jeannette( Mike) ,  Danielle( Jason), Alexandra (Albert) and Meagan( Steve) ; great grandchildren Samantha, Andrew ( Courtney), Taylor, Ryan, Colton, Kiara, Anthony, and Austin; and great great grandchild Mackenzie. Dominick was also greatly loved by his many nieces and nephews.  It was because of that love of family that we were planning a 95th birthday celebration.  Because that was canceled due to Covid-19, we think it will be most fitting to celebrate his love for life next year on his birthday when everyone can be together to share their many stories and memories of him.                                      

Viewing will be on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, at Freeman Manalapan - Marlboro Funeral Home, 344 Route 9 North.  Interment & Blessing will follow at Old Tennent Cemetery, Manalapan.  Due to Covid -19 we are asking for everyone to please just make your way to pay your respect and then exit. Masks and social distancing are required. For those who desire, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Childrens Hospital.
