To the family of Carmine Serpa,
I just came across Carmine’s obituary on the internet. I am very saddened to learn of his passing. He was a wonderful man. Just last week my brother, TJ, brought me a letter written by Carmine and Camiel in 1997. In it they spoke of the good times we had with them in Syracuse and the love they had for our family. It was such a beautiful letter, and it gave TJ and I the chance to reflect on that period in our lives. We remembered how Carmine and Camiel came to Syracuse as newlyweds and how they soon became like part of our family. Carmine was so kind, and Camiel always made us laugh. She made the best lentil soup! I even remember the day Lauren was born.
I don’t know if anyone will read this as it is so late, but if you do, I would love to hear from you. My email address is

Laura, it is hard to know that someone we love, especially a parent, and someone we want to see everyday, is no longer here. But what a nice alternative - your father is now in a place where the flowers are singing! He may not be here, but the memories will last forever.

Although I never met Carmine, I feel as if I have known him all my life. Thanks to his daughter Laura for sharing all her wonderful memories of her Dad. I do know that Laura, Jimmy and their family were very loyal to Carmine. I also knew he loved his family very much, as well as his Country.
Most Loving Thoughts and Deepest Sympathy to Laura, Jimmy & Family

Yesterday I lost my hero, someone I was blessed to have in my life for 61 years. My dad was the kindest, most genuine, loving person and as a father he was that and so much more. Gina and I could not have wished for a better father. He let us know every day how much he loved us through actions and words. He drove me to school every single day from kindergarten through high school and then drop me off at the train station every morning once I started working in the city. It was on those drives we talked about everything starting with the newest crayon craze in kindergarten to wedding planning in those later years.
As a father in law he loved his sons in law as his own. Jimmy and John were so special to him.
And as a grandfather, to Lauren, Dana, James, Anthony, Taylor and John, he was simply amazing. He found a way to inspire each grandchild. He was so involved in their lives. He would hold mock newscasts, conduct “can you draw this” challenges, attend dance recitals, plays, concerts and even rollerbladed!. He Stayed connected to his grandchildren by learning to text, and email. He was so very proud of each and every one.
As a great grandfather (Cute Papa) to Sophia, Dominic, Zoe, Henry, Claire and Eli, he was incredible ❤️ He learned what Snapchat was all about and played games such as bingo, ladder golf and his favorite, Pie Face! He adored these children.
We were all so important to him and he cherished all of us, but the center of his world, his “one and only” was his beautiful bride of 63 years Camiel. He adored her. They had a true storybook romance, not always easy, but always full of love and respect. He was her protector and I know she was the love of his life.
I will miss you daddy, with all of my heart. I absolutely loved spending time with you, The last 10 years that you lived here in NJ were so special to me. I will cherish the dinners we had at my house during the week, just to spend time together. I will remember always how you enjoyed those dinners and our discussions over glasses of wine.
Daddy I love you with all of my heart, I always have, and I cherish my memories of you.
Laura
