Obituary of Charles Cedric Tanner jr

Charles Cedric Tanner Jr., of Lakewood, was received into the Lord's presence on Thursday, September 26, 2013. Born in Marlboro, he resided in Lakewood for many years. He was a proud U.S. Army Korean War veteran. Charles worked as a truck driver for Eastern Express, Metuchen for many years for over 20 years. He loved bowling, pinochle, jazz and playing the saxophone in his own band in the 40's called Charlie Tanner & the Melody Dudes.
He was predeceased by his parents, Charles Sr. and Alma Mae Williams Tanner; his son, Mitchell; sisters, Arline and Gail; and brothers, Donald and Herbert. He is survived by his four children, Marjorie Swain (George) of Lakewood, Charles Tanner III (Dianne) of Harrington, DE, Virginia Tanner of Barnegat, Fritzi Tanner of Lakewood; and daughter-in-law, Mildred Tanner; his siblings, Shirley Johnson, Sondra Little, Patricia Simms, Bobby Tanner and Jerri Tanner; 14 grandchildren; and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Family and friends may visit from 10:30 AM until the funeral service at 11:30 AM, on Thursday, October 3rd, at Freeman Funeral Home, 47 East Main Street, Freehold, followed by interment at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold. Please visit www.freemanfuneralhomes.com
