Obituary of Lillian Savad

Please share a memory of Lillian to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Libby Savad, 91, of Marlboro Township, died peacefully Friday, June 7, 2013 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold. She was born in Brooklyn, NY on September 2, 1921 to parents Nathan and Meinke Arkin. Libby was the oldest of three children, and took that role very seriously. Hard working and fun loving, she fell in love with and married Sol Savad on October 14, 1942 during WWII and settled in Brooklyn to raise three children. She was the hub around which family revolved for her entire life. After raising a family, Libby returned to Brooklyn College and received her BA in 1968 and her MS in speech therapy in 1972, where she worked as Adjunct Faculty and Clinical Instructor in the Speech and Hearing Center. She also worked as a home care provider through the Americare Therapy Services. However, her favorite job was working alongside her husband at his dental office in Brooklyn, sneaking a kiss in the lab from time to time. Libby was active in Hadassah, Kadimah especially starring in singing roles in Yiddish translated musicals. She was the favored secretary of the Arkel Family Cousins Club where her minutes were the highlight of the meetings, as well as in later years for the Marlboro Greens Single Club. Libby was predeceased by her husband Solly in 1996 and her sister Tsippie. She is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Elihu and his wife Susan and Dr. Mark and his wife Terry Culbertson; daughter and son-in-law, Gloria and her husband Joseph Curreri; brother Jack Arkin; five grandchildren, Michael and Daniel Savad (Abbie Lathrop-Savad), Diana and Dean Curreri, Miriam Savad; two great grandchildren; Gwendolyn and Elena Sally and many cousins. A funeral service will be today at 11:30 AM at Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, Manalapan. Interment will follow at Beth David Cemetery, Elmont, NY. Donations in her memory may be made to the Meals on Wheels program of Interfaith Neighbors at 810 4th Avenue, Asbury Park, NJ 07712 or www.interfaithneighbors.org.
