Obituary of Silvia Perez Colon

Silvia Perez Colon, 88 years of age, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, June 23, 2018. She had a longtime battle with dementia. Our mother was born in Camaguey, Cuba in 1929. She was the first in her family to come to the US where she met our father, the love of her life, on a blind date; and was married for 55 years. She was a housewife, wonderful mother, and beloved "Abuela" . She dedicated her life to her husband, children, and grandchildren. Everyone who met my mother loved her. She was funny, mischievous, caring, and a great cook, among other traits. She was relentless in giving her children and grandchildren love and respect. Our mom raised us by herself with no help from family, while her husband traveled over 150 days a year. She was an incredible mother, and we will miss her. She is survived by her children, Alfred and his wife Kathy of Toms River, NJ; Mike and his wife Diane of Freehold, NJ; Silvia and her husband Chris of Freehold; and seven wonderful grandchildren, Hailee, Nancy, Dominick, Mackenzie, Lacie, Rilee, and Mikee. We would also like to thank Dorian Fraser who tirelessly took care of our mother with much respect and love! Thank you so much! You did so much, and gave her a life! The family will receive relatives and friends for viewing on Friday, June 29, 2018 from 4 to 8 PM at Freeman Funeral Home, 47 E. Main Street, Freehold, NJ. There will be a funeral service at the funeral home on Saturday at 10:00 AM; followed by entombment at Marlboro Memorial Cemetery and Mausoleum, 361 N-79, Morganville, NJ.
