Obituary of Charles R Nagengast

Charles R. Nagengast, 92, best known to all as Charlie, passed peacefully at home late Thursday evening, surrounded by his surviving son, Bob, 57, and close family friends. He was predeceded by his loving wife of 62 years, Mary Alice, and his devoted daughter Clare Heather, 54. Born to John and Hannah Nagengast in Bayonne NJ, he was the youngest brother to Ann, Joseph, and John. He is survived by six nieces and nephews and two grandchildren, Rachel and Jordan Nagengast, both residing in Teaneck NJ with his daughter in-law Judika Illes.
Charlie was a graduate of Bayonne HS and attended Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. He was a veteran of WWII, serving with the Army Air Corp from 1943 to 1945 in the Pacific theaPictureswas employed for 39 years as a lineman and switch board specialist at NJ Bell Telephone before retiring to serve as an Officer of the Court in Manalapan Township for 19 years.
A resident of Manalapan since 1965, Charlie was a communicant of St. Thomas More RC Church and an active member of the parish building committee. He volunteered as a Little League baseball coach. Favorite hobbies and activities included bird watching, enjoying family vacations, and tinkering with electronics and mechanics. A preferred charitable cause of his was the Paralyzed Veterans of America.
