Edward W. Dillon, Jr., 87, of Manalapan, passed away on Monday, October 9, 2023. He was born in Long Branch and raised on a chicken farm in Englishtown. He graduated from Jamesburg High School. Edward was employed as a Bank Manager for PNC Bank in Millstone. For over 50 years, he worked as a Pari-Mutuel Clerk at Freehold Raceway. He traveled to the Meadowlands Racetrack and Monmouth Park to assist with the big races.

 

He was the oldest, active volunteer firefighter serving over sixty years for the Manalapan Township Fire Company # 1 serving as Treasurer for thirty years, Vice President, Top Responder, Fire Police, Board of Fire Commissioners Fire District # 2, Trustee for Fire Company and Fire Relief Association.  He was Santa Claus for the children’s Christmas party and the Christmas run driving around the roads of Manalapan and Englishtown. His elves were his grandchildren handing out candy canes to the children.

 

He belonged to the Millstone Lions Club where he served as Treasurer for many years.

 

He was a Leader of Monmouth County 4-H and involved with the Leaders and Alumni Associations serving as Treasurer for many years. He volunteered at the Monmouth County Fair assembling and then dismantling the 4-H tents, not to mention counting the money from the food tent nightly.

 

Edward was predeceased by his parents Edward and Estella, aunt, and many uncles. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Helen; daughters Linda (Robert) and Lisa; brother Joseph (Patricia); nephew Michael; and grandchildren Matthew, Michael and Meghan and granddog Mason. 

 

Friends and family are invited to visit on Friday, October 13th from 4pm to 8 pm, at Freeman Funeral Home, 47 East Main Street, Freehold. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 14th at 10:00am at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Old Tennent Cemetery, Manalapan, NJ.
